I am a teacher of Medieval History to a group of 7th graders in a classical school program in the U.S. We are reading Gray’s “Adam of the Road” and I thought I’d pull up a map of London showing Old St. Paul’s to illustrate part of the story. When I saw the “eel ships” I, too, was intrigued and of course the first search I did came up with your findings. Very fascinating! I don’t have time to read all the articles at present but will find time to do so. The only eel-eating that I have experienced in modern times is in Italy for the New Year – it’s their good luck tradition.
